Marvellous Melrose Masterminds
Melrose Masterminds were very nervous at the start of the tenth De Putron Challenge. Our team- captain India Hilgeland-Wilkins, Lauren Varley, Isla Savory and reserve Nina Richards, have been practising hard for over 4 weeks with Mrs Morris, Mr Honeybill, parents and the rest of Form III asking us loads of questions on a huge range of topics to help us.
In the first heat we were against La Hougette, St Mary and St Michaels, Notre Dame, Vale and La Mare de Carteret. We got off to a brilliant start and we led all the way through the first 4 rounds. La Hougette had a fantastic final round and won the heat; we were level with St Mary and St Michaels, so we had to have a tie breaker question with them to see who would go into the final. Luckily, India knew that the Sahara Desert was in Africa and we secured a place in the final. In the second heat, Castel and Forest were victorious.
In the final, George Walker from Castel got his team off to a massive start and they led the whole way through. At the beginning of the final round we were coming fourth with 6 points behind the other three teams, so we just decided to go for it and try our hardest. Amazingly, this was our best ever round, especially for Isla, who managed to buzz faster than anyone else, and we ended up coming second with 12 points behind Castel who had 16 and the other teams tied with 9 point each.
We were all exhausted- mums, dads, Mrs Morris, Mrs Ozanne and Mr Honeybill, contestants and the rest of the class! Mrs Morris said that she needed a lie down after all that excitement!
We won £150 and feel very proud of ourselves for doing our best and representing the school so well. The rest of the class made excellent banners, including one with flashing lights. We would like to thank the class for all their help and especially our parents, Mrs Morris and Mr Honeybill for the hours they have given up to help us.
