Apply For A Place

To apply for a place at The Ladies' College in all departments, please contact our Registrar, Rosalyn McClean on 01481 721602 or email

We welcome prospective pupils and parents to come and take a look around our school at any time. Rosalyn will personally lead you on a tour of the College and answer any questions you may have. For prospective Preparatory and Junior pupils, the Head Teacher Elaine Ozanne will show you around Melrose.

Places are awarded on the following basis:

Pre-Preparatory Department The first twenty applicants per year group will usually receive a place at Pre-Preparatory Department with a guaranteed place for Lower Preparatory in Melrose. There are further non-conditional Pre-Preparatory Department places available but those girls will have to go on the waiting list for places in Lower Preparatory. Girls can be registered at The Ladies' College Pre-Preparatory Department from birth.

Melrose Usually, girls from The Ladies' College Pre-Preparatory Department are automatically awarded a place in Lower Preparatory (year R) at Melrose. Thus there are waiting lists for most year groups at Melrose. Where places are available they are awarded subject to relevant assessment.

Senior School Usually, girls from Melrose (up to 24 per year) are automatically awarded a place in Remove (year 7) together with Special Place Holders (up to 23 per year) who have taken the 11+ within the States' Primary system. The remainder of places are filled by fee payers who must attain a specific level in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning tests.

Sixth Form Usually, girls from the Senior School are automatically awarded a place in our Sixth Form. We welcome students from other schools who have gained a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above and who have a satisfactory reference from their current Headteacher.
