In just 10 months The Ladies' College fundraising committee has raised £1 million as part of the school’s expansion; “A Gift for Learning” Phase 3.

The College needs to raise £2 million towards the Phase 3 building, which will cost £7.5 million in total.

The principal of The Ladies' College, Ashley Clancy said; "We are incredibly grateful to students, parents, colleagues, governors, alumni and friends of the College for their generosity. I am amazed at the response we have had.  In my experience to reach this amount of money in only 10 months is unprecedented.”

The work follows the successes of Phase 1; The Leaf Centre ; a dedicated space for the Sixth Form; and Phase 2; the bespoke drama, dance and art facility used by girls from as young as the pre-school up to sixth form.

Phase 3 of the school’s expansion focuses on a brand new building attached to the senior school that will replace the out-dated huts.  It includes 10 new classrooms, a learning support room, dedicated music centre, new refectory and library which will all be ready by September 2016.

The dedicated music space is set to be used used by Melrose and Senior students and will include sound-proofed practice rooms that double up as a recording studio. A link to the school hall will also create a "green room", to support performances which take place on stage.

Melrose pupils will also benefit from use of the senior school’s new dedicated refectory.

“There is little doubt that the new facilities at The Ladies' College will improve the fabric of the buildings to reflect the hard work and achievements of the students,” said Mrs Clancy.

“This final phase of our redevelopment will provide us with 21st Century accommodation for our 21st Century students, to enable them to achieve their full potential and to enhance their future choices.”

As part of The Ladies’ College’s ongoing fundraising efforts, it is holding an Emerald Fundraising Ball at Beau Sejour on Saturday 5 March, which has already sold out.  However people can still get involved by buying raffle tickets to win a car; the winning tickets will be drawn at the ball. Other fund-raising activities are also taking place and details can be found on The Ladies’ College website: www.ladiescollege.com.

"Our community really values the support offered to the College from everyone linked with the fundraising campaign. This is not just in terms of the financial support, but also the engagement that shows an appreciation of The Ladies' College and the opportunity it has afforded to girls for almost 150 years.”
