Duke of Edinburgh Award
Over 50 girls from Lower Five completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Practice and Qualifying expeditions on the 10th/11th October 2015.
They left Vazon and followed routes around the island, up and down and along roads and lanes previously unknown to some, occasionally stopping to readjust and reflect on where they were! Overnight camp was on the College field, with more than 20 tents and girls reflecting on the luxury of their homes, as they cooked their own food and wrapped up against the cool temperatures under canvas. An early morning call got the groups on their way again on Sunday, with cloudier skies and stronger winds making the walk on tired legs with heavy rucksacks even more of a challenge.
By the time the groups reached either Cobo or Pembroke they were pleased to be there and were looking forward to their own beds. On reflection they should be pleased that they completed the task they had set themselves and will also, no doubt, also begin to understand the importance of working together in a team, especially when there are bumps, trips and discussions about, “Which way should we go?”
