“A Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning.”
The concept originated in Scandinavia and provides an opportunity for the girls to develop confidence and self-esteem through engaging in hands-on learning experiences in their natural environment.
Melrose Forest School has been registered and in existence since Spring 2013, with the teaching method increasingly recognised as a professional and creative approach to safe and effective outdoor learning. Our pupils are encouraged to develop the independent learning skills that we value and that are essential as the girls progress into the later stages of their education.
We also hope that the girls will develop a love and understanding of the natural environment and that the Forest School investigative and problem solving approach to learning will be reflected in the curriculum across the school.
Our Junior Remove teacher has undertaken a course in Advanced Forest School Leadership and teaches the girls about caring for, managing and understanding the woodland environment.
Our Upper Prep teacher is completing her Advanced Forest Schools training in preperation for leading sessions within the Prep department.
