The Ladies’ College A-level results, Reviewed Press Release Summer 2020

NEWS  SIXTH FORM , SIXTH FORM CAREERS

Following the announcement on Monday that Centre Assessed Grades will now be awarded to our students, or their exam adjusted grade if higher than the Centre Assessed grade, this Press Release updates that posted on Thursday 13th August 2020.

We continue to be incredibly proud of our Upper Sixth students for all that they have achieved and for how well they have adapted and adjusted to unexpected changes as they approached the end of their education at The Ladies’ College.

Instead of completing the training and gearing up for the final part of their A-level marathon, suddenly these examinations were cancelled and their thoughts about the future temporarily turned upside down. The examination boards asked for Centre Assessed Grades to be submitted, which required a rigorous, robust and realistic response from colleagues to ensure that the results for each subject and each student were fair, consistent and justified. It is now clear, that for some, this was not the case and we are delighted that the new grades awarded, better reflect what we feel would have been achieved had the examinations been sat. The amended results sheets will be with students as soon as we have reviewed these and can be requested by email from Mrs Duguid sduguid@ladiescollege.ac.gg. They can also be collected on Wednesday 19th August (08.30 - 12.30) from College, if preferred.

The past few days have not made things easy for students, who have had the most challenging of times. The U-turn by the UK Government now means student have results that have been earned over the two-year course, which are well-deserved and hard-earned. The results are now a much fairer measure of individual academic achievements to date and we are incredibly proud of not only the final outcome, but also how students have managed this whole roller-coaster.

The overall grades awarded last Thursday were very strong, with a significant number of individual injustices, based on the algorithm. 36% of grades were adjusted downwards by this and 2% were adjusted upwards. The six students who achieved all A* / A grades is now 15 and congratulations go to Katie Connolly, Anna Davies, Florence Falla, Llywella James, Hannah Langlois, Elise Le Breton, Louise Madden, Orla Rabey, Sophie Raffray, Emily Savident, Abigail Tardival, Suzannah Tostevin, Maeve Tully, Abigail Tustin and Daisy Whiteman.

All of our students should be proud of their achievements and know that whilst they are not defined by examination results, they have added successfully to their CV. As well as being engaging and engaged, they have a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and towards others.

We are incredibly proud of all of our rounded, grounded 'class of 2020', who have proven themselves to be resilient and principled and we send them our very best wishes for the future.
