Perhaps Dumbledore in Harry Potter is saying that music can touch our soul in a more powerful way than any other means.
At Melrose we are committed to supporting the girls with their musical talent, whatever their level, encouraging their first musical steps and helping them develop as rounded musicians promoting a lifelong enthusiasm for the subject.
The girls have an abundance of weekly musical group opportunities with Junior choir, handbells, music-making, string ensemble, flute and recorder ensemble, theory club and smaller vocal groups and they are always enthusiastic in their performances at school and in the wider community. Individual tuition is available for all orchestral instruments, recorder, singing and drum kit from a team of respected visiting music teachers.
Preparatory and Junior departments meet for midweek hymn practice giving a rousing start to the morning. All Junior classes have an hour of specialist music tuition each week with our experienced Head of Music, Jean Owen.
