'Old girl' turned local author

NEWS  SENIOR SCHOOL , SIXTH FORM , HISTORY , LIBRARY , GUILD

To mark the start of the Guernsey Literary Festival and the Liberation weekend celebrations, José Day, a Ladies' College ‘old girl’ and school governor for twenty years, presented the College library with two copies of her new book, ‘The People’s Messenger’ - The Occupation Diary of Louis Guillemette. Guernsey 1940-45.’

As the secretary to the Controlling Committee president, Louis Guillemette was present at wartime meetings and was the main interlocutor between Guernsey leaders and the German civil administration. José Day, his daughter, Ken Tough, editor, and the publisher Steven Foote have turned Guillemette's account of the Occupation into a book, which has been described by John Nettles as ‘fascinating to read, impossible to overestimate. The best of the best Occupation diaries.’

Thank you so much for this contribution to the College library.
