Art and Photography Exhibition 2016

NEWS  MELROSE , ART

The latest Ladies’ College Art Exhibition opens officially on Friday 10 June 2016 with a private viewing where invited guests from the College community will join students, their parents and staff in celebrating the work on display.

The Exhibition covers GCSE, AS and A-level Fine Art and A- Level Photography pieces, but also includes a smaller presentation of some GCSE Design and Technology work. Artwork has been produced in a range of mediums from traditional drawing and painting through to large scale sculpture and is the culmination of many hours of supervised activity for those sitting public examinations. Each portfolio is then assessed by an external examiner from the UK who will visit the Exhibition shortly after it is opened to the public.

Charlotte Thompson says: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the Art and Design course as it provided me with a real opportunity to push myself artistically. The A-level theme of Truth, Fantasy or Fiction has required me to have a deeper understanding of art in a worldly context and has to make my work more current and impactful.”

Fellow student Clarice Greening also enthuses: “Whilst the course specification has kept me focussed, the nature of the subject has allowed my creativity to flow. What I love about Art though is that no matter what the topic, everyone seems to come up with unique ideas and at the end of the year you can find yourself doing things you would have never imagined of trying.”

Miss Clements, Head of Art, is looking forward to her first exhibition, having joined the College in September last year. “It has been a very rewarding first year and is a privilege to see our students take their work to the next level, showing sensitivity and an awareness of more thoughtful, and thought provoking, ideas. As the final Exhibition clearly shows, the girls have excelled in exploring the briefs given and the Exhibition speaks volumes of the talent the Department is fortunate to foster and develop over their time with us”.
The Exhibition will be open for members of the public on Tuesday 14 June 2016, 15:30-17:30 and Friday 17 June 2016, 15:30-16:30. For more information, please contact Miss Clements on 721602.
