Our Island Community

For over 150 years The Ladies' College has been woven into the heart of Guernsey.
That commitment continues today.

Part of the fabric of Guernsey

The Ladies’ College is deeply woven into the history, culture, and everyday life of Guernsey. Our single-campus location, set on the outskirts of St Peter Port, provides a nurturing environment where students grow into active members of the island community.

From our youngest pupils in Pre-School to our Sixth Formers at The Leaf Centre, every stage of education is enriched by our close ties to the island, its people, and its traditions.

A childhood rooted in island life

Living in Guernsey offers endless opportunities for learning beyond school walls. At Melrose, our youngest pupils explore the island through outdoor education, beach schools, and historical visits that bring lessons to life.

Whether it's discovering marine life on our shores, walking in the footsteps of Victor Hugo, or meeting local artisans, our pupils grow up with a deep sense of belonging and connection to their home island. We also welcome guest speakers, from local authors to conservationists, fostering an early understanding of community and collaboration.

“Don’t educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy. So when they grow up they will know the value of things, not the price.

Victor Hugo

A connected education

Guernsey’s small size allows for a unique educational ecosystem, where friendships and collaborations extend beyond individual schools.

Nearly a third of the island’s children attend one of the three independent colleges, and co-curricular activities bring students together from across the island.

From sports tournaments and inter-school debates to Guernsey Music Service choirs and orchestras, our students develop strong bonds and shared experiences that last a lifetime.

Making a difference beyond the classroom

The Ladies’ College is deeply committed to community outreach, actively encouraging students to engage with local projects, charities, and environmental initiatives.

From participating in ecological research and sustainability efforts to volunteering with local organisations, our girls learn the value of giving back and making a meaningful impact.

Our sports department hosts training camps and competitions open to children across the island, encouraging teamwork and inclusivity.

Through events like the annual Big Debate and International Women’s Day celebrations, we empower our students to have the confidence to use their voices, embrace curiosity, and contribute to the wider Guernsey community with kindness, compassion and inclusion.
