The Core is open
Our new canteen called The Core opened for business at the start of term and is proving a great success with the girls and staff. Daily specials include things like chicken and sweetcorn pie, flaked salmon and new potatoes, pasta bakes, fresh salads, fresh soup, open sandwiches, cakes, fresh fruit and milkshakes.
Work was carried out through the summer holidays on the massive £250,000 revamp of our catering facilities. This included a completely new kitchen, serving area and specialist equipment to get dinners piping hot to Melrose.
Our existing canteen area has had a new floor and the old orange pine ceiling is now painted white - a job not dissimilar in magnitude to the painting of the Sistine Chapel. The Ercol tables which have survived at least 30 years have all been replaced with modern clean white tables; the hard wooden chairs replaced with comfortable, padded lime and purple seating.
The changes are obviously going down well with the girls as average daily sales have almost doubled. Feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive and the girls seem to love pouring cups of tea from our new dotty tea pots.
