Introduction message from Dame Mary Perkins, Campaign Chair
I am delighted to be the Chair of this exciting campaign to raise a minimum of £1million to fund tremendous improvements in our student’s learning environment. As a mother of two Old Girls and with grand-daughters at the school, the Ladies’ College is close to my heart.
I would like to invite you to join us in our campaign as together we can make a real difference to our students’ education here at the Ladies’ College.
Ladies’ College Development Plans:
Our development plans feature three key phases:
- Phase 1 New Sixth Form Centre
- Phase 2 New Classroom Block
- Phase 3 Replacement of temporary huts
In 2010, the College launched 'A Gift for Learning Campaign' to raise the initial £1 million needed to fund phases 1 & 2 of the development plan.
The College is adding to the voluntary funds raised by committing a substantial proportion of its reserves.
Phase 1: New Sixth Form Centre
As a highly successful, academic school the College recognises the importance of creating a vibrant learning environment for Sixth Form students. The new centre will contain up-to-date technology, quiet study areas, a flexible common room space and adequate toilet and kitchen facilities.
Building work is well underway on this centre and it will be open to students from April 2011.
Phase 2: New Classroom Block
The College is now past the detailed planning stage with architects to build a classroom facility which will be a 2-storey flexible teaching space. It will be linked to Melrose by a fully enclosed walk-way thereby providing easy access for younger girls.
Building work is scheduled to begin on this block in summer 2011.
A Gift for Learning Campaign ....Success so far:
The success of the Campaign can be largely attributed to our committed group of voluntary Campaign Board Members, led by Dame Mary Perkins. These are a group of Parents, Governors and Old Girls who have individually supported the campaign and used their influence and contacts with the wider college community to get us to this fantastic figure.
Please contact the school if you would like to get involved.
